Don’t you love it when something is far in the future and there’s plenty of time to plan and suddenly it hits you that it isn’t really that far?
I have a holiday book fair on December 5th. I need books to sell. Luckily, even though it didn’t seem so at the time, copies of Blue Moon the Rebirth arrived while I was at the June book fair. So at least now, I have enough copies of that one for the December event. I also have enough of the original cover of Blue Crescent Black Moon because the new cover is the one that sold. I need a few of the new cover.
But I’m going to need to buy some copies of Dominion and I expect Special Order to be done by then. It may be done as I write this because it really has moved along. And Shadow Canyon really needs to be out there.
But the problem is money. Shadow Canyon and Special Order need ISBN’s. I can get them free from Amazon, but then I can only sell on Amazon. That doesn’t work for me. I was very happy to discover two of my books noted as available on Barnes & Noble, Bookshop.org and ThriftBooks, (as a new copy). And that just happened organically.
Unfortunately, I don’t live in a country that gives away ISBN’s. In the US they cost $125. each. But for $295, I can get ten ISBN’s. Which is likely a good idea. But then why does just one cost so much? Hoping for a sale.
And then the covers. Almost $125 if I have my designer do them. The thing is that I have a cover that ChatGPT did for me for Special Order and it’s perfect. But there’s so much hate on Ai right now, that I’m afraid to use it. The one book event says no Ai whatsoever. Does that mean my book cover too?
Anyway, I have Dec. 5th, and the Scottsdale Book Fair on Jan 30th next year, and I heard back from Readers of the Valley and have been accepted into Stories in Bloom on May 22nd. So, I need to buy books to sell at those events. A lot of people that come to these events want signed copies, not links to Amazon. I’ll need at least five copies of Special Order, Shadow Canyon and Dominion. So, I have to figure this all out and make a budget.
I wish I could get a job and just go for the orientation. A day or two of pay would do it. Nah…I don’t want to work. I have stories to write.
