DAY ONE: MONDAY

‟Boss. We have an intruder.”

‟Yes, I see,” he said. As he watched, a gust of wind lifted her hat. She turned and chased it. Aronné smiled. The intruder had copper-red hair down to her waist that had been tucked under the hat and now flew behind her. He put down the binoculars and grinned. ‟Let’s go meet our visitor.”

Aronné walked down the steps of his villa, and onto the soft sand that led to the beach. The young woman saw them approaching, but didn’t stop.

‟What are you doing?”

‟Mapping the water.”

He crossed his arms, and with one eyebrow raised, stared at her, obviously not believing her.

‟Okay, mapping the coastline and the sea floor.”

‟It’s my coastline, and I don’t remember asking you to map it.”

‟You don’t own the coastline. I’m not on your property. Your property line…”

‟The line is where I say it is.”

‟Yeah. Of course it is.” She turned away from him and took another measurement, then pulled a tablet from her bag to add her data.

He frowned when she turned her back on him. No one ever dared to do that. Aronné crossed his arms and studied her as if she were under a microscope. She was wearing a cropped blue T-shirt over a bathing suit, and the floppy hat had been returned to her head to protect her face. He couldn’t see her eyes due to the reflective sunglasses.

‟What is that?”

‟What’s what?”

‟That pole.” He nodded at the pole she held.

‟RTK-GPS.” She didn’t look at him again until she finished putting her tablet away. Then she noticed his clothes. The white shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows and the beige linen slacks all screamed money. Along with the villa on the cliff that he had emerged from. Another rich guy who thought he owned the world. ‟I really don’t have time for this. I have a job to do.”

He studied her for a minute, surprised that her gaze never wavered from his. He nodded to his guards. ‟Bring her.”
